I really liked the movie “Rent” but as I [mentioned in my review entry](http://www.momathome.com/viewfromhome/2005/11/rent_my_review.php) I was bummed that the song “Goodbye Love” was missing.

Turns out, the song was there and it was cut in the editing. Why? Director Chris Columbus [explains in a video blog entry](http://www.rentmovieblog.com/archives/2005/12/chris_why_did_y.php) on the official Rent blog.

In short, he says that the heavy emotional impact of the scene put the rest of the movie on emotional overload and it didn’t work for him or the editor. Nevermind that it, not Angel’s death, carried the emotional weight of the entire show.

Good news is that the deleted scene will be in the DVD. Not put back in its space in the film, but at least it will be there in the extras. Reason enough right there to buy it, and of course transfer to my iPod.
