Black Monday

Comment spam. It seems that everyone is either complaining about it, or coming up with ideas on how to deal with it.

This one, by Jay Allen shows a great deal of promise. It’s going to be released tomorrow on a day that some sites are calling “Black Monday” for comment spammers. Now that’s what I call a holiday worth celebrating. 🙂 Note to spammers: you’re much better off sticking to email where all the newbies are. I knew it was only a matter of time before bloggers, by nature of the network created and our ability to feed off each other’s expertise would figure out a way to deal with this problem one and for all.

I just hope that the MT-Blacklist plug-in is easy to implement without requiring shell access to areas of the site beyond the public HTML files or direct hacking of the MySQL database the way some of the other solutions have. I deleted 2 comments yesterday and about 4 in the last week or so. I can only imagine how annoying this is for the bigger, higher-ranking sites.
